In the Grip of Grace

Holy Week 2012 has brought me to an amazing journey with God, with my fellow volunteers and the people of General Santos City. Looking back, I could not help but remember one of my intimate conversations with God before the trip. I asked from Him a lot of things: provision, guidance, protection, unity, good weather, fun, friends and my list went on and on.

With my long list of prayer points, He simply answered me in His fatherly tone, “Just let go and allow me to work for you.  Let me show you things that I mean to tell you.”  And I said, “Okay God, I believe and trust You.” Hence, I went with an expectant heart.

It was a trip worth all our combined time, efforts, finances and prayers. We engaged.  We served. We laughed. We cried. We played. We loved.  Above all, we experienced how God moved in the entire trip.

There were few times when God would speak to me in the entire trip but the most memorable was when I was asked to help in counseling.  As I ministered, God has ministered to me as well. I felt that God was talking to me as His words became alive for me. The enemy might have tried his best at times to confuse or condemn me especially when I felt far from God but He reminded me again about His awesome love and His great promise in John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” This is His promise and this is my eternal security. I am glad that my salvation does not depend on my own human effort to hold on to God but it is through His grace, His mercy and His love.

Personally, the medical mission was an opportunity for me to bless and serve people I do not know. At the same time, it was an avenue where God once again assured me of my security in His grip of grace. With this, I am eternally grateful.
