Benevolence, selflessness and compassion – these were the
attributes that God has graciously bestowed upon me as I inclined to venture to
a place beyond my comfort zone and acquiesce in the ‘chosen land’, which He has
ordained to eventually become my home.
I was in the midst of perplexity brought by my past and present
relationship when God explicitly opened His door for a divine appointment. In
my pursuit of enlightenment and answer to the dilemma that I was facing way
back in July 2011, I sought advice from Mary Ann. After hearing the two sides
of the story and knowing that the man whom I was praying for is from GenSan,
she immediately prophesied that he was the one that God has appointed for me.
She then shared that she has envisaged a medical mission in the same place
through God’s prompting to her and at the same time, invited me to take part in
it. It might seem as a coincidence but I knew that it was both an answer and a
confirmation directed from the hand of God. With entrenched thoughts, I
uttered, “He is the right man. I must choose him as He was precisely chosen by
God. I must take part in the medical mission because this is what He commands.”
Hence, I stepped out in faith and obeyed, equipping myself with what is
extolled in 2 John 1:6 “And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His
commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in
love. ”
On the contrary, numerous hindrances came athwart as the enemy
tried to devour my willingness to commit to the mission. With the obvious
manifestation of impediments that came in forms of personal and financial
issues, I even thought of backing out and abjuring God’s plans and prompting. Being fully engaged and committed to the
mission seemed uphill and discouraging, but I was reminded that I must be willing
to serve in a way that I was called to. Furthermore, I was enlightened by what
Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 12:12 that as we face trials, we are to
“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
Looking back at the encapsulated account of my glorious engagement
in God’s mission in Gen San, I couldn’t help but wonder how He effaced my
pessimism in a snap and transformed my complaints and anxiety into obedience
and expectation. I was amazed how God touched each and everyone’s heart to go
the extra mile to serve the people and proclaim His words despite the hurdles
that came along the way. From ENCS volunteers’ limited budget, inadequate
doctor and medicine supply, language barrier, erratic weather, and volunteers’
health issues emerged the outpouring of blessings, embodiment of Good
Samaritans, and images of God’s disciples. All these were made possible through
the people whom God has aligned to collaborate with us – the Pastor Leaders and
volunteers from Victory Gen San, especially those vigorous and zealous volunteers
who were assigned to Kid’s Ministry for I was personally amazed on how God used
their vivacious personalities and awesome talents in bringing the gospel to
life and meeting the objectives and lessons that we intended to imbibe.
In my retrospection of my 2-day engagement in Kid’s Ministry, I
still clearly see how the kids’ genuine smile and indubitable means of
expressing their appreciation melted our heart. The more I got involved in the
mission, the louder I heard God’s voice and the clearer I perceived His visions
and plans. Truly, I could say that we
did not deal with a human work, but with the Holy Spirit who accomplished this
medical mission both in and through us.
As I was told, a multi-faceted miracle and grace would be
experienced by those who walk in faith and obedience. Consequently, after a
year of patiently waiting for the pending result of my CPE registration, it
finally got approved just a week after my engagement in the medical mission. I
could finally get back to my passion in teaching and at the same time thrive in
the field which He directed me to pursue. Hence, I must say that “with our
faithful obedience and engagement in His glorious mission lie an overwhelming
victory and astounding blessings.”
