When I Ran
By Jonalie Sison

My heart was not into this medical mission.  But in order to please the organizer and get away from her constant persuasion, I said yes. Besides, I knew I could make my escape along the way.

Several meetings were scheduled. I was able to skip some but since I couldn’t find a valid excuse to be present in the team building, I attended without my heart in it. A day before our scheduled departure for the mission trip came my most reasonable escape. That day was my appointment with an orthopedic doctor because of my back pain that I have been complaining about since last year. The doctor’s initial finding wasn’t good. He told me that I might have a serious disease - something that I should be concerned about for I might not be able to work in the future because of it. It was really God who changed my heart. That same afternoon, I found myself praying to God and telling Him, “God, it’s not about me. It’s about You.  I know that You call me for this medical mission and You will heal all my disease.”

I did go and take part in the medical mission. I realized that running away from God won’t do a person any good. Thankfully, God pursued me. I was able to do the things I love doing -- to educate my fellow Filipinos with my knowledge about medicines. Not only that, during the entire mission trip, God reminded me of 3 things - to care, appreciate and be patient with others. Care even when you are tired and even when there are still loads of things to be finished. Appreciate the smallest things that God has given you because some don’t have even have half of what you are enjoying. Be patient with others as they are also extending the same patience with me.

After the mission trip, I went to see another doctor to consult my back condition. Amazingly, she told me that I look well and that in itself would be another testimony.
